Synopsis:
A Dzi bead from Tibet was on its way to Hong Kong for an exhibition, but was stolen by a mysterious gang with a possible link to a long-lost cult, the Gemini Clan. The guardian of the Dzi bead, Lucky and his adopted son, Hey tried to solicit the help of the head of the Clan, the Principal, to track down the bead.

Unwilling to come out of retirement, the Principal refused to get involved, but when Lucky was seriously wounded after another attack by the mysterious gang, the Principal reluctantly summoned the help of the Clan’s former member – Twins.

In the meantime, the suicide of an artifact dealer put the police hot on the heels of the Principal and his students. When Hey finally retrieved the bead, he mistakenly handed it to the Principal’s twin brother, the Boss, who was the master mind behind the theft in an attempt to take over a prime piece of property along the coast.

The Skinny: Entertaining if overproduced action is the highlight of this otherwise routine comic book adaptation. If you can get past the silly stuff and wait out the mind-numbing exposition, then you should be fine. However, given the filmmaker pedigree – specifically a little movie called SPL – Dragon Tiger Gate only disappoints.

Review: 

As the millennium dawns, a new Gambling Hero arrives on the screen: Louis Koo. As Cool, Louis is the successor to Andy Lau’s Knight of Gamblers, and he handles himself well, showing intensity and presence. Surprisingly, Nick Cheung is quite good as official sidekick Jersey. As for the movie, it’s the typical mishmash of action and comedy, though the plot this time is especially predictable. 

Jersey is a wacky triad guy who hangs out in bowling alleys with his saucy girlfriend Christy Chung. On their vacation to Japan they run into Cool, who’s now a low-key restaurant owner. Jersey is dismayed that his idol is hawking sushi instead of making bank at the gambling tables. He vows to bring Cool back, but soon learns the true nature of Cool’s self-imposed exile. Cool is watching over his ex-girlfriend Yan (Athena Chu) who’s now married to his rival, the evil Lam Kwok-Bun. Yan is also a vegetable, thanks to a bullet meant for Cool at her wedding. Though Cool’s guilt keeps him from returning to his gambling ways, he does eventually get dragged back thanks to the chicanery of his archenemy, as well as the pleas of Jersey and Japanese gambler Yasuaki Kurata. 

What this all means is absolutely zip, but the whole thing is fluffy fun with a couple new twists to the tried-and-true formula. Cool has the amazing ability to use playing cards as weapons, and thanks to jazzy CG effects he wields cards like a ninja master. Still, that novelty can only last so long and when all is said and done, there isn’t much here that hasn’t been done before. It’s nice to see Ching Siu-Tung back behind the camera, though.

Synopsis

Susi (Charlene Choi) was a typical super fan, chasing after popular singers everyday. After having taken the HKCEE public exam, she was very free and became a full time member of Sampson’s fans club. Sampson was one of the two “Heavenly Kings” in the pop music circle. Susi and her admirer Water (Leo Ku), who was a postman, puffed up Sampson on the Internet every day. Out of spite, they also smeared Sampson’s competitor Yan and did many crazy things to harass him, such as sending him funeral chrysanthemum and paper money for the dead.

One day, Sampson’s assistant got hurt by an accident. Since Sampson had to attend the “Beijing Award Presentation” and the “Hong Kong Award Presentation” very soon. He needed a replacement assistant urgently and asked Susi to fill in for the place. Susi was overjoyed.

As Sampson’s temporary helper, Susi had a lot of works to handle. Making things worse, Sampson just treated her as if she was a maid. Luckily, her good friend and secret admirer Water was always by her side to save the day. He even accompanied Susi to Beijing.

What surprised Susi the most was that Sampson eventually showed his true colours. She found out that he was up to something secret in a trip to Taiwan… – -AsianMediaWiki

This is a faithful and emotional retelling of a legendary Chinese folklore classic. A serpent-lady, Bai Suzhen, has a dream to be a goddess someday. The goddess Guan Yin tells her that it is going to be a long and arduous process, in which she is required to increase her virtue and to sever all forms of worldly relations. Yet, during the process, she meets the scholar Xu Xian. They fall in love and get married. This snake-human union brings them happiness and results in a daughter. However, a righteous sorcerer-monk, Fa Hai, believes that all demons should be exterminated. So, he vows to capture Suzhen and to turn her back into her original form. Xu Xian’s love stays firm though Fa Hai tells him the truth. Unfortunately, since Xu Xian is a mortal man, he can’t do much to protect his wife and his daughter while being caught in the conflict. His courage and determination touch the very heart of Bai Suzhen.

New Judge Bao Descriptions, Synopsis and Story:

Justice Bao is back! The embodiment of justice and wisdom, black-faced magistrate and folk hero Bao Qing Tian has long been a popular figure for adaptation, with actors from Ti Lung to Anthony Wong to Lu Yi sporting the crescent moon in various television dramas and films over the years. The most memorable portrayal of Bao Qing Tian though remains the 1993 Taiwan television serial starring the unbeatable team of Jin Chao Chun, Kenny Ho, and Fan Hung Hsuan. The classic series was a huge hit in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China, and effectively started a new trend of period investigative dramas. Fifteen years and many adaptations later, the original Kaifeng trio returns for the 2008 installment of Bao Qing Tian.

Jin Chao Chun reprises his signature role as Justice Bao, while Kenny Ho and Fan Hung Hsuan return as heroic constable Zhan Zhao and advisor Gongsun Ce, respectively. The serial consists of five stories that see Justice Bao and company investigating mysteries, cracking cases, and dealing poetic justice in the courtroom. The drama’s extended cast includes Hong Kong stars Benny Chan Ho Man, Eric Suen, Kwan Lai Kit, and Michael Tong.

The legendary Pao Cheng, was a much praised judge who lived during the Song dynasty. Because of his renowned fairness, he remains a powerful icon in Chinese popular culture to this day, especially for the disenfranchised who seek justice. There are many legends and stories about Bao and his witty approach to solving mysteries and tough cases. His character has been dramatized in multiple stories in literature, opera and other media. He is often portrayed with a black face and a white crescent shaped birthmark on his forehead suggesting the impartiality and uprightness of an ancient Chinese official.

The battle between good & evil, who will rule?

The waning period of the Song Dynasty is a dark age under the shadow of killings for fame and wealth between sects in the civil world.
